BIG KAISER launches a conical Smart Damper module for metric screw-in assemblies

25.10.2024

Ruemlang, Switzerland – 25. October 2024 – BIG KAISER, a global leader in premium high-precision tooling systems and solutions for the metalworking industries, announces the Smart Damper Screw-On module, a new addition to the company’s existing Smart Damper family that adds support for screw-on tool assemblies.

The new module has a conical shape that makes it ideal for mold making, i.e. deep pockets, which cannot be reached with a standard cylindrical form. The module’s tapered body design maximizes its rigidity whilst minimizing interference.

The Smart Damper Screw-on module is suited for tools with a standard M16 metric interface. This means that customers can benefit from the inherent rigidity of a smart damper toolholder, whilst also enjoying the cost savings that metric screw-in systems provide compared to shaft tools.

“With this new module, BIG KAISER is now the only company offering a toolholder that combines a conical form with a metric interface and an integrated smart damper,” said Giampaolo Roccatello, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer for Europe at BIG KAISER. “This means that customers benefit from the rigidity of the smart damper, the flexibility of a modular system and the cost savings of metric screw-in systems – all backed by BIG KAISER’s renowned quality.”

The Smart Damper Screw-on has a modular design, with the basic holder and damping unit comprising of two separate components. Once the tool is assembled, the integrated mechanism locks the head and the holder into a single piece. This confers maximum rigidity and robustness to the tool, effectively reducing vibrations.

Additionally, the modular design reduces costs for customers because the dampening mechanism is contained only in the damping unit, not in the entire tool. Competitors’ products not utilizing this approach are generally more expensive. A further advantage of BIG KAISER’s modular approach is that the anti-vibration system is as close as possible to the cutter, the primary source of the vibrations.

This new module is aimed at machining tasks requiring deep cavities with diameters from 16 mm to approximately 40 mm. It is particularly well suited to boring operations in challenging materials that are prone to chatter.

The module is available now.
